The Manhattan Choral Ensemble announces a composition contest. Composers local to New York City (living within 50 miles) are invited to submit a short (2.5- to 3-minute) work for four-part SATB chorus based on a text in some way associated with, connected to, or appropriate to New York City (for example, a setting of text by a New York City poet/writer - anyone from Walt Whitman to Langston Hughes to Patti Smith). The work should be a new composition that has not yet been premiered. The work should be of a level of difficulty that it would require a maximum of three hours of rehearsal to prepare for performance. The general repertoire difficulty of the Manhattan Choral Ensemble can be ascertained through the concert listings.

Submissions must be received by March 1, 2012. Electronic submissions are acceptable. There is no fee to apply.
